Better late than never
A year and a half later, Sara and I are finally getting around to getting our wedding photos online. The pictures were all taken by the extremely talented Matt Sawyer. We’re only about half done. Here are some favorites so far:
The rest of the set is here. Updates to come.
Happy birthday baby
Yesterday was Sara’s birthday. It was also Britney Spears’ birthday. They were born on the same day and are the exact same age. Let’s compare and contrast:
Age: Same
Location: Britney - California/ Sara - Kentucky
Occupation: Britney - Performer/ Sara - Hair Dresser
Marital Status: Britney - Divorced/ Sara - Married
Mental state: Britney - Presumably bonkers/ Sara - Solid as a rock
Appearance: Britney - Increasingly haggard and strange/ Sara - Gets more beautiful every day
Importance to me: Britney - None/ Sara - Means the world to me
So as you can see, the similarities between Sara and Britney stop at them sharing a birthday.
When I married Sara I went in a little cocky. I had been married before, I was older, and I had dated a lot. I considered myself fairly self-aware and figured I had this marriage figured out.
The reality is, though, that Sara teaches me something new everyday. I wasn’t ready for how caring and loving she is. I wasn’t ready for how complex she is. I wasn’t ready to see just how large my capacity to be a wrongheaded doofus was.
If I’ve done one thing right in my life, it’s picking her as my wife. She’s more than my better half, she’s my everything. And I’ve never deserved her for even a second. But she’s mine and she’s stuck, so joke’s on her!
Sara has a blog! I always thought she’d be good at blogging, but never thought she’d do it. It’s all about her and her job. I’m really proud of her and love reading what she’s putting up there. You should totally check it out. The address is http://saradruryhair.tumblr.com.
Angela Anderson is a photographer that Sara greatly admires. Angela recently asked Sara to do hair for one of her photoshoots. Sara was excited and flattered to say the least. The flattery didn’t end there, though. Angela ended up asking Sara to pose for some pictures. I thought I’d post one of them just to remind you all of what a hot woman I’m married to.
this one time…
All my favorite people were in one room and Charlie sang the best Van Morrison song of them all:
The Healing Has Begun from Patrick Drury on Vimeo.
And that wasn’t even the best part! Because next this girl came in the room…
Guess what I did last night
As of about 9:20 last night, Sara and I are…
ENGAGED!!!
Yes, that’s right. I asked Sara to marry me and she said yes!
The whole thing went off without a hitch (except for the part at dinner where I was so nervous that I almost threw up).
I started planning everything months ago. I approached my buddy Steve Smith, Charley The Intern, and Jennifer about learning three songs that were instrumental to Sara’s and my courtship.
Last night they performed those three songs for us, and at the end of the last one, I proposed. I also had my friends Tim, GG, and The Colonel running St. Awesome’s cameras and sound system so that we have the whole thing on DVD and CD.
The Colonel was nice enough to snap a few photos for me while they rehearsed and got set up:

You can tell from this picture how effortless playing is for Steve:
Jennifer, apparently, was a little stressed:
The players were set up on the stage surrounded by candles and Sara and I were in two comfy chairs on a platform about five feet from the stage. I have dubbed this platform, “Engagement Island.” For some reason GG apparently hung out on Engagement Island all night before we got there:

We walked in on a path of rose petals:

Charley was invaluable. Besides performing with the group, he also helped me set up on Thursday afternoon:
We watched the DVD when we got home and Tim did some of the best video directing of his life:
Some of our friends and family knew this was going down and arranged to crash the event. They all came pouring in after she said, “yes.” Sneaky bastards:

Oh and here’s the ring:
Because we’re all slightly brain-dead we didn’t get a single picture of Sara and I together. Can you believe that? But, like I said, we do have the whole thing on DVD. If you’re nice to me and get me a good wedding gift, maybe I’ll let you watch it some time.
It was, to date, the greatest night of my life and all my friends made it go off without a hitch. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night, guys. Thanks!
And I couldn’t be any happier to be marrying the most incredible, most beautiful girl in the world. I love you, baby.
