First LOST theory
Because coming up with a theories about what’s going on and then finding out how ridiculously wrong you are is part of the fun of watching LOST, here’s my theory as to what happened last night on the season premiere and what’s coming over the final season.
Warning - I talk a little bit about some quantum mechanics stuff that I know just little enough about to get everything completely wrong, so give me some grace here.
I think at the end of last season, when they set off the bomb, the survivors caused the timestream to branch off and create an alternate universe. So now, the survivors are kind of in a Schrodinger’s Cat kind of situation where they exist in two seperate states at once.
So my guess is that Jack in the new reality (the one where the plane landed in Los Angeles) has a sense that something is wrong (as shown by his sense of Deja Vu with Desmond on the plane) and will set out to correct it. Eventually he’ll encounter the Faraday of the new reality (who will already have guessed what’s going on) and they’ll set a plan in motion to rejoin the two time streams. This way we’ll have two storylines going on at once this season (recreating the whole Flashback formula the show thrives on). On the Island we’ll be learning the history behind Jacob and all the mysteries from previous seasons, and back in the real world we’ll get character stories as the survivors go about their business like they would have if they’d never crashed in the first place - until Jack shows up and pulls them into whatever plan he and Faraday will have cooked up.
There you go. I’m sure we’ll see I’m wrong as soon as next week, but that’s what I got so far.
Feel free to discuss this below - but if you really want some down and dirty LOST conversations, check out my buddy Mark’s new blog here.
