This is a piece I made for last weekend’s services at Crossorads. Jubilee Jobs is a non-profit organization here in Lexington that helps people find jobs. They especially have a heart for second-chance workers who are finding out the hard way that having a record greatly hinders your ability to find employment. I was really, really impressed by the heart of these guys. Also, John Kelly...

Let's all be Batman for a day!
We can be all cool and brooding: We can kick Superman’s ass: We can make out with chicks with out shirts off: We can think about deep stuff: We can shoot a big machine gun: We can fall off… You know what, never mind that last one, that’s probably not gonna end well.

X-Men: First Class
Honestly, I never thought I’d be excited about an X-Men movie again. Iron Man kind of shined a big spotlight on how mediocre the the mutant movies really were by showing us how good a Marvel movie could be. Every time I see a new image or hear something new about X-Men: First Class, though, I have to rethink my stance. It’s set in the 60’s. It only kind of nods at comic...

– Dean Haspiel has some advice for comic creators, as we stand on the cusp of a new publishing paradigm. It’s good advice for anyone who likes to make stuff, be it comics, music, movies, etc…

State of The Union - Comics Edition
The recently deceased Harvey Pekar famously (well, famously in comic circles) said, “Comics are just words and pictures. You can do anything with words and pictures.” That little bit of truth is one of the reasons why now, decades after my grandmother assured me I would one day outgrow them, I still love comics. While technology is finally starting to catch up with imagination, it’s still...

Sunday Valley CD release party
Last night Sunday Valley had a CD release party for their new album, To The Wind and On To Heaven, at Cosmic Charley’s. It was a great show with several special guest, including Sara’s favorite local artist, Coralee of Coralee and the Townies. I took the Canon T2i and a recently purchased Zoom H4N and did a little recording. It was my first time out with the Zoom so I was really...

Work journal: less than ideal audio setup
I’ve decided to start documenting some of my setup and work with the new dslr. Why? I really don’t have a good reason. Maybe it’ll be helpful to somebody else. Probably not. This week I’ve done two different video shoots with the new camera. This video shows the hoops I’m currently having to jump through in order to record audio during these shoots.

Patrick's Favorite Things
We showed this at Crossroads on Christmas Eve. Actually, now that I watch it, this is a longer version than what we played on Christmas Eve. So this is the director’s cut, I guess…
